India is an important actor in the climate change debate for several reasons. Becoming significant contributor to ghg emissions (growing economy) Indian analysts have played important goals in framing climate debate, leader of developing world. About 2/3rds of economy still depend on ag, forests, and fisherie for livelihood. Annual ghg emissions were 1,228 mil tonnes of cd equivalent in 1994 and are estimated to have reached 1750 mil cd equivalent by 2005. Amounts to only 4-5% of global ghg emissions rate in this period. Cd is 65% of emissions (comes from power generation, industry, and transport however 31% is methane. Regardless of policy scenarios, substantial increases in cd are expected. Cd emissions increase from about 990 million tonnes to values ranging from 2020 to 3120 million tonnes. Global climate models (gcms) predict 3 t 6 degree celsius increase in rainfall by end of century. Increased variability of monsoon is likely to be major form of cc affects.
