Constructivism: newer form of ir, belief that ideas, knowledge, norms and rules influence identities and interests and very organization of world politics, focus on how identity, norms, and culture shape patterns of war and peace. Looking at neo-liberalism and neo-realism beliefs of individualism and materialism are not only their goals but constructivists see that that is how their interests are formed through them. It became a way to understand the end of the cold war when other theories couldn"t explain it: along with the rise of human rights, transnationalism, and other things that helped with the rise. A social theory, not a political theory: conceptualize relationship between agents and structures. Constructivism is about human consciousness and its role in international life . Idealism: says we need to take social ideas seriously in politics. Also holism: says that we are all connected and need to act like it. Based on social facts: things that exist based on human agreement.
