The trait approach: based on empirical research that mostly uses correlation designs. Ex: test and observation averages: focuses exclusively on individual differences. Seeks to measure the degree to which a person might be more or less trait x, y, z: prone to neglect aspects of psychology common to all people and the ways each person is unique. Trait approach (cid:498)all men are like some other men(cid:499) People are more stable as they age. People differ in the degree which they have developed a consistent personality. Believing personality is important: situationist argument. 4 is the upper limit for predictability of a given behavior from personality variable or behavior in other situations and this upper limit is low: the response. Review of personality literature is selective; literature goes both ways, however. ,4 upper limit is a result of poo/less that optimal research methodology.
