Primary driving force of surface water is wind blowing across it. On a smaller scale causes waves and global ocean currents on a global scale. Gyres series of interacing circular moion surface ocean currents. Warm currents move from lower laitudes near the equator to higher ones. Cold currents move from higher laitudes near the arcic to lower ones. Southern waters become entwined with the antarcic circumpolar. Very pronounced cold, north-flowing humboldt (peru / chile) current. To the south, it is delected to the east by the antarcic. Empies into the paciic via the bering current. Empies into the atlanic via the labrador and greenland currents. Warmest areas are in the subtropics, not the equator. Higher laitude regions experience much lower temperatures. During january, the southern hemisphere and its waters become warmer due to increased insolaion, warming regions as far south as antarcica. The northern hemisphere loses water temperature during this ime and the temperature becomes much cooler in these areas.
