Hi-def: the programmer must use a high-def signal & consumers must have hdtv equipment to receive it and view it. Reason: because they were concerned about the finite number of channels and the frequency- interference problems. Result: big cities had many stations, small cities had none. In tv cities: movie attendance decreased, people checked out fewer books and listened to less radio, while cities without tv did not. Color tv: in 1966, the consumer market for color sets had taken off.
