Continuity theory- the idea that older adults adapt lifelong interests and activities to the limitations imposed upon them by physical aging. Successful aging- good physical health, retention of cognitive abilities, continuing engagement in social and productive abilities. Must be maintained through middle and late adulthood. Volunteerism- performance of unpaid work for altruistic motives.
