The tools share essential traits that make them such traits rather than a traditional website. The lms and e-learning program both speak primary languages- in order for them to speak to each other, they need a common language (usually a standard method like scorm, aicc, or xapi) Finding such common language is important because the e-learning program and the lms need to exchange information. Great e-learning authoring tools have slide templates and interaction templates that make it easy to drop in multimedia and graphic elements with the content. E-learning authoring tools allow you to bring in content from almost any source. Ex: capture an audio file from your microphone and save it into your e-learning program. Ex: insert a movie file you create with imovie and add it to your e- learning program.
