Document Summary
Stats 280 chapter 3-5 notes: histogram is a graph used to summarize data. A histogram does not need a vertical scale. Class intervals refer to the ranges covered by the bars in a histogram. In histograms, the areas of the blocks represent percentages: drawing a histogram. The starting point of drawing a histogram is a distribution table, which shows the percentage of families with incomes in each class interval. Endpoint convention is the boundary of each class interval. Put down a horizontal access. (interval should be proportional) Blocks should be proportional to percents but don"t make these blocks as high as their percents. Block height = % in block / smaller intervals: to figure out the height of a block over a class interval, divide the percentage by the length of the interval, the density scale. It is convenient to have a vertical scale in histograms. Vertical scales are often drawn using density scales. (percentage per horizontal unit)
