Rondo (popular in the last movements of symphonies) Genre- a category of music: text, function, performing forces. Main genres: pop song, symphony, string quartet, piano trio. Variation- versions of the theme varied in melody, meter, rhythm, texture, mode and tempo. Imitative polyphony- when the various lines sounding together use the same or fairly same melodies (ie a round). Non-imitative polyphony- when the melodies are different from one another (ie the many textures in a new orleans jazz band) Musical style- the combination of qualities that make music individual and different.
