All other related problems that mental health professionals will encounter regularly. Psychologists focus on biological factors and feelings of inadequacy. Comprehensive drug abuse prevention and control act (1970) Drugs are placed on a scale of five schedules . Schedule i: high potential for abuse; no accepted medical use in treatment (heroin, lsd, weed) Schedule ii: also have a high potential for abuse; can lead to psychological or physical dependence;accepted medical use in treatment (morphine, cocaine) The others: less abuse potential, increased medical uses, and less likelihood of dependence. Addiction: compulsion to use aod regardless of negative or adverse consequences. Characterized by psychological dependence and often physical dependence. Chemical dependency: a term used to describe addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs and to differentiate this type of addiction from non-chemical addictions (gambling)
