Comprehensive drug abuse prevention and control act (1970) Drugs are placed on a scale of five schedules . Schedule i: high potential for abuse; no accepted medical use in treatment (heroin, lsd, weed) Schedule ii: also have a high potential for abuse; can lead to psychological or physical dependence;accepted medical use in treatment (morphine, cocaine) The others: less abuse potential, increased medical uses, and less likelihood of dependence. Addiction: compulsion to use aod regardless of negative or adverse consequences. Characterized by psychological dependence and often physical dependence. Chemical dependency: a term used to describe addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs and to differentiate this type of addiction from non-chemical addictions (gambling)
