PSQF 1075 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Autism Spectrum, Intellectual Giftedness, Fluid And Crystallized Intelligence
Document Summary
Every child is a distinctive collection of talents, abilities, and limitations. Some students have learning disabilities, communication disorders, emotional or behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, impaired vision or difficulties hearing, autism spectrum disorders, traumatic brain injury, remarkable gifts and talents, or some combination. A label does not tell which methods to use with individual students. The label itself seems to affect the guidance- courses taken in high school are gateways to college and advanced education, so lower expectations for students leading to enrollment in less-demanding courses can have a life-changing impact. Students labeled as special needs" protects the child because students around him/her are more likely to accept his or her behaviors, because of the label special needs". Disability: the inability to do something specific such as pronounce words or see or walk. Using victim of" and suffering with" in labeling makes the person seem powerless.
