Fundamental concepts
Self identity: context matters, self is deļ¬ned in relation to another
Dramaturgy: Goļ¬manās theory, its a fundamental metaphor of the
world being a stage: performance of the self for an audience
Social construction of reality: There is no ultimate reality, what is true, real,
necessary and inevitable are all constructive understanding of the world,
contingent of time and place
Embodiment: Bodies are also constructive, bodies provide an experiential
intelligibility, and so the body is not seperate from the mind. We donāt want
to cause a dualism as the body is part of the mind
Somatic work: Olfactory capacity is constructive, dependant on
processes of learning. The way you learn to engage with your body is
contingent on society constructs
Stigma: Stigma is not just disenfranchised subjects, not just the
underprivileged. It is the process of marking an identity as less valued,
diļ¬erent from in a pejorative way.
