Document Summary
Hoarding disorder: one of the new disorders in the dsm. A compulsion to gather stuff and the thought of getting rid of it causes anxiety. Trichotillomania is related to ocd: compulsive hair pulling. It will cause a lot of problems in their personal and professional lives. Body dysmorphic disorder: a preoccupation with a slight defect (real or non-existent) in appearance. Symptoms including checking yourself in a mirror all the time, excessive grooming, and constantly seeking reassurance. If the preoccupation is about body weight and the other symptoms are also present, it should be diagnosed as an eating disorder. It is not possible to have both body dysmorphic disorder and an eating disorder. There are different explanations for the development of anxiety disorders. Learning model: behavioural explanation, classical conditioning (when there"s a previously neutral stimulus that has acquired the properties of scary stimulus).
