Amygdala: area of brain crucial role in making significant experiences more memorable. The amygdala has been implicated in the generation of the most rudimentary and profound of human emotions, including fear, sexual desire, rage. Ex. its neurons become activated in response to human faces. The amygdala is directly connected to the hippocampus, and interacts in memory. The amygdala is implicated in the formation of long-term emotional memories. Thought to be very important for aversive memories in many animals. Sleep deprivation after learning, hinder the consolidation of previously encoded memories. Depriving trauma victims of sleep the first night a/f the traumatic event might, potentially preventing the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (ptsd). Forgetting: some processes recruited negatively affect learning, protein phosphatase 1 limits acquisition, inhibition of pp1 prolongs memory- pp1 might promote forgetting.
