Lecture 1 introduction to child and youth development. Science is a method of understanding the physical and mental world. This course deals with what you can measure, what you can know, what you can predict, what you can understand, etc. Contrary to a lot of published and popular belief, children have generally been viewed in a very similar light over the course of history (with some exceptions) Post-modernist relativism is silly in this regard, because children are different and are treated differently. It was suggested by some scholars (i. e. aries) that childhood was not a concept known or practiced in. Medieval europe because of the extreme death rates and labour demands. This has since been shown to be false. Depicts no concept of childhood as the children and infants are portrayed with old faces. Depicts the children as happy and interacting with one another. Depicts the mother caring for the children and the father providing for the children.
