Researchers focus on naturally emerging languages and the meanings individuals assign to experience. Life-worlds include: emotions, motivations, symbols and their meanings, empathy and other subjective aspects associated with naturally evolving lives of individuals and groups. These elements may also represent their behaviours routines, experiences and various conditions affecting these usual routines and natural settings. Research may suggest new problems for theory, require theoretical innovation, refine existing theories, or serve to vary past theoretical assumptions. Empirical research plays an active role, not simply just a passive role of verifying and testing theory. One starts off with ideas (conjectures) and then attempts to disprove or refute them through tests of empirical research (refutation) 2a) a different model for the research enterprise:
