The nature of asd: autism spectrum disorder (apa, 2013, problems in social communication and social interaction. Minimally verbal (vocals) v examples: only able to pronounce one word; only able to make sounds (i. e. mmm, dada) Non-verbal v examples: body-space challenges; eye contact. Examples: hand flapping; restricted interest in trains; mouthing; preoccupied with numbers; expectation of routine (things should not change: occurrence of symptoms. Usually before the age of 3 (according to the dsm v) v attempt to diagnosis before the age of 18 months: clinically significant impairment. Very dependent on the circumstances and the child: differential diagnosis. Asd symptoms: disorders between this spectrum, rett"s disorder. 5 months of normal development, then rapidly declines. Some symptoms: motor movement challenges, decreased head growth, social difficulties, cognitive difficulties, etc. Only occurs in females (gene only appears in females: child disintegrative disorder. 2 years of normal development, then rapidly declines. Some symptoms: social interaction, social communication, cognitive impairment, repetitive behaviours, etc: asperger"s disorder.
