Husband of leda gives her to menelaus= he comes king of sparta. But later she is seduced away by paris, prince of troy. Armada of ships to troy to besiege city and get her back= trojan war. Classical greeks were surrounded by ruins= indicated an earlier civilization = On island of crete: minoans lived here. Arthur evans, an archaeologist- explores site of knossos c 1900; discovers ruins of a large very complex building. Archaeologist reveals larger palace sites and towns across crete from bronze age (palace- where royalty would live)
