Council house: for council of 500; 5th c, bc: legislation made here to take to the assembly, where elections were organized. Open-air courthouse for judicial matters - gods could take part. Invented in athens; developed in archaic period at the festival of dionysus on hill of acropolis = dances and songs about myths. By 5th c. bc comedy and tragedy performed. Development of the theater: seating: theatron where you sat and watched, performance area: orchestra, stage building: skene (scene building that the actors use that will be developed into the stage as it moves forward) No urban planning in the site, streets are narrow and winding = houses are small and simple = organic development.
