COMM 1F90 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Neoliberalism, Soft Power, Personal Branding
Document Summary
There"s a couple different ways this is interesting: What happened 20 years ago, a lot of companies started moving their companies from domestic to overseas and started diversifying, the same time global products were shifting, so was the presentation and packaging. Some people suggest we"ve gone from geopolitics to a world of brand and imaging. Globalization is a discourse, the world getting smaller and shrinking. But globalization is a brand, a way of understanding these forces. Globalization as a brand, we"re telling national stores, getting=national mantras and slogans, but we"re turning these mantras into myths. These national places and regions don"t actually matter anymore. As this is increasingly reality, globalization needs and requires these distinctions. In order for countries to still compete on the international stage. Brnadinf is explained this way of the world, and yes what might be happening is that cultural imperialism is happening. They don"t want to lose their identity all together.
