What students are required to learn in each subject and at each grade level. School is about more than just academic things. Never formally evaluated - but you have to learn them succeed. Question: how do you think the curriculum in any of your high school courses should be changed. Ie critical thinking as an aim -and yet curriculum doesn"t promotes it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Being prescriptive may seem to promote clarity of expectations. May restrict teachers flexibility in interpretation and application. Question: as a new teacher how open or prescriptive would you like curriculum to be. No: may make students uncomfortable and parents angry, and it"s hard to be neutral! If yes then how should teachers be prepared. Even what is or isn"t a controversial topic! It"s controversial because lots of people say it is. Lack of consensus on how to teach controversy. Teachers are already too busy to deal with society.
