Document Summary
Constructivism: learners construct knowledge for themselves, therefore, to learn is to construct, because learning is constructing, we must focus on who does the learning, prioritization on the student, therefore, the student is at the center. Constructivism helped pave the way for student- centred learning. New knowledge, but no knowledge is separate from the person, the context (social context, etc. Students are constructing this new knowledge but also realizing that knowledge is somewhat embedded. There is no such thing was knowledge out there". Contrast to john locke, who says: one of the main ideas he advocated is that learners are blank slates. They have no prior ideas, values, mental structures, and assumptions. Every time you teach something new it"s as if students never though before that, and have nothing in their minds: students should work alone, and listen silently all day, teaching is like pouring data into people"s heads. Learning is like having something put into your head.
