Across all age groups, young adults are significantly over represented as victims of violence due to another person"s drinking. Men are more likely than women to be victims of violence. Victims of violence are more likely than non victims to use illicit drugs. Drinking impairs cognitive and psychomotor abilities this leads to reduced ability to recognize signs of violence and avoid danger. Effects of alcohol on victims may increase likelihood that they will be chosen as target for aggression. Drinking may lead to actions to provoke violence (someone bumps into you initiation it) Reasons why women"s use of illicit drugs be related to physical victimization by someone who has been drinking. Situational factors may influence the relationship between physical victimization and alcohol consumption.
