Health professionals need to have reliable, valid, up-to date knowledge for effective practice: is the research well designed?, are the results generalizable?, are there confounds/biases. As a health professional, one should be able to answer these questions; Is the judicious use of the best, current evidence in making decisions about the medical care of the individual patient. Takes patient desires, values and needs into consideration. An umbrella term that encompasses evidence-based practices in all health, medical and allied health fields. Best research evidence , clinical expertise, patient values. & preferences all revolve around ebp (make a diagram later on) Consists of 5 steps: ask a searchable clinical question (ex: does the proposed treatment work?, find the best evidence to answer the question. Used peer-reviewed, scholarly sources to look up the best evidence possible. Best evidence= studies at highest level of evidence possible.
