HLSC 1F90 Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Healthy Planet, Sea Surface Temperature, Septic Tank
Document Summary
Human health is fundamentally related to the health of the planet. Humans can become ill, or die from: ingesing food, water or dust that is polluted, inhaling air contaminated with toxins, and coming into contact with polluted water, soil and objects. Reliance on fossil fuel for powering machinery and vehicles, heaing houses, cooking food ect. Poor waste management pracices (coupled with excessive packaging /poor sanitaion) Oct 2011: global populaion reached 7 billion. Growth is due to ferility and life expectancy although ferility rates are falling slowly, infant mortality rates are falling quickly ferility (developing naions): 4. 63 now; 2. 5 in 2050. Percent of the world populaion these countries had and will have. As populaion increases there is more compeiion for resources, and an increase in polluion. (for example, the consumpion of meat has increased, a process that requires many resources and produces a lot of polluion) Water polluion can come from 2 sources.
