HLSC 2F95 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Perineal Raphe, Seminiferous Tubule, Vas Deferens
Document Summary
Hang in the scrotum (outside the body) 5cm long, 3cm wide, 2. 5cm thick, 10-15g. During development, testes form inside the abdominal cavity near the kidneys. Descend toward the scrotum by passing through the inguinal canals. The ductus deferens, blood vessels, lymphatics and nerves remain bundled to the testes in the spermatic cord. Extends from anus, across scrotum, and along the anterior surface of penis. Tuna vaginalis membrane that covers the outside of each teste and lines the scrotal cavity. Contraction causes wrinkling of scrotal surface: cremaster muscle. Contraction tenses the scrotal sac and pulls it closer to the body. The temp for sperm development is 2 decrees f cooler than body temp. Cells within this space are the interstitial cells which produce/release testosterone. Meiosis: set of events involved in the production of sperm cells, begins in the outer layer of the seminiferous tubule. Spermatogonia: stem cells that differentiate into sperm cells. Secretion of inhibin: controls rate of sperm formation.
