A condition in which a genetic female produces abnormal levels of testosterone prenatally is called congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Gonads are regulated by hypothalamus releasing gn-rh, pituitary releasing fsh, pituitary releasing lh. In certain cultures, they isolate women during menstruation. E. g. , leviticus mikvah: women are not supposed to have sex for 7 days after menstruation. E. g. , pliny the elder: menstruation causes wine to sour, crops to be barren, fruit to fall and mirrors to dull. E. g. , 50s perm to fall: if you had a perm, your perm would fall during your menstruation. 2003 canadian study: 33% of couples never engaged in sex during menstruation. Most mammals have estrous cycle instead of menstrual cycles. Differences: only spotting, ovulate when spotting, sex only occurs during the estrous phase (in heat) Women are fertile during their menstruation phase. Cycle length: luteal phase constant (14 days) The follicular phase is to the proliferative phase as the luteal phase is to the secretory phase.
