HLSC 3P97 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Cell-Mediated Immunity, Lymph Node, Adaptive Immune System
Document Summary
Tb is infectious by aerosol sneezing, coughing, microbe is contained in those small droplets after transmission become latent. Un treated / drug resistant (because of being immunocompromised aka hiv. Portion of the lung exchanges gas, organism becomes lodged in the air capacity. We already have innate macrophages, sensing foreign bacteria proteins, and they contact certain proteins on the surface of m. tuberculosis. The organism will infiltrate the alveolar space called inferstichum, this is between the cells of the organ, inside tissue surrounding alveolar space. Macrophages pick up whatever they can, and head out to lymph node. T cells, b cells that have specificity find themselves in the proper lymph node and respond. The products produced in the lymph node go back to the lung, where they start to form granuloma (m. tuberculosis is replicating). The granuloma make a ring around m. tb to keep it from spreading. Macrophages are further enhanced and activated in phagocytic and killing function.
