If there is a problem in the lungs, a sufficient amount of oxygen won"t be made and it will harm the heart. Arteries pump oxygenated blood away from the heart. When getting a blood test, you get blood from the veins rather than arteries because an arterial bleed is much worse than a vein burst. Although the blood in veins is deoxygenated, it becomes oxygenated as soon as the needle is inserted because it becomes in contact with oxygen. Valves keep the blood from backing up (keeps oxygenated blood form going to the lungs and deoxygenated blood going into arteries) Left side of the heart is bigger because it is more muscular. Annual mortality due to cvd >69 000 deaths. Burden of cvd in canada- heart disease/stroke=2 top 3 causes of death in canada. Of all cvd deaths 54% due to ischemic heart disease, 20% due to stroke and 23% due to heart attack.
