Inter cultural: cultures within cultures monday feb 29/16. Co-culture becomes a special case of in-group membership as the larger group generally accepts the presence of the other but the distinction is generally marked. Difference doesn"t have to come from other regions. Many overlapping cultures within geographical regions especially now. Within the capacity to disseminate values through media and the economic power that they wield, youth have become a significant cultural force, if not a sub/ co culture in north america. North american youth culture has very distinctive. Muted group theory: individuals who don"t belong to the dominant group are. Contact participation: is it considered to be of value to maintain relationships with larger society silenced by a lack of opportunities to express their experience, perceptions and worldviews. In other words, their point of view lacks legitimacy in the eyes of the dominate culture and is therefore ignored. Dominant cultures attitudes toward cultural difference: culture is the best/only culture worth having.
