At present, ncds cause more deaths than all other causes combined. Deaths are projected to increase from 38 million in 2012 to 52 million by 2030. Four major ncds are responsible for ~82% o ncd deaths: cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes. Generic term for >100 disease including malignant tumours at different sites. 8. 2 million people do each year from cancer an estimated 12% of all deaths worldwide. 70% the increase in new cases of cancer expected over the next 2 decades. 57% (8 million) of new cancer cases and 65% (5. 3 million) of deaths occur in the less developed regions. >100 cancer types exist, each requiring unique diagnosis and treatment. 1 in 2 canadians will develop cancer during his lifetime. Every 3 minutes every day, 1 person will be diagnosed with cancer. Causes of cancer: few cancers have a single cause. Often a complex mix between accumulated exposure to risk factors and genetic susceptibility.
