Men: lung, prostate, colorectum, stomach (high incidence) Women: breast, colorectum, cervix, lung (high incidence) ~ one in two canadians will develop cancer during his lifetime every 3 minutes, every day, 1 person will be diagnosed with cancer highest incidence from ages 50-80+ highest incidences: colon and rectum, lung, prostate, breast, testis. Cancer is the uncontrolled growth and spread of cells that may affect almost any tissue of the body. Failure of the mechanisms that regulate normal cell growth, proliferation and cell death: Cancers are the results of a disruption of the normal restraints on cellular proliferation. The mechanism for this disruption is ultimately genetic or infectious. There are ~40 genes in the cell regulation proliferation. Eg/ if you have the flu, the immune system is killing all the infection cells, not the virus. 8. 2 million people die each year from cancer, an estimated 13% of all deaths worldwide.
