They generally have shared goals and may have shared values and beliefs. Discourse community vs community of practice vs network: discourse community: Fake it until you make it in academia journals: community of practice: social part of discourse, community interaction, network: central hub; connected by something/someone and all connected. Particular facebook groups ways of communicating in that particular group and people that are in that group are part of your network.
