Document Summary
Power is rooted in control of resources. Control of economic resources, control of force/coercive resources, control on institutional positions that yield these resources. Media mogul has power over the public. How can we explain those groups who have power do what groups without power"s will. All societies organize social life through specialized and interdependent relations: cooperation. All people in system of cooperation have a kind of power. All participants contributions are necessary to keeping the systems working. Workers depend on employers but employers also depend on workers. Landowner depend on agricultural workers as much as the worker depends on the landowner. Unlike wealth and force which are concentrated at the two of social hierarchies, power inherent in interdependencies is potentially widespread. Power can be activated by all parties to social relations. Answer: withdrawal of contributions to social cooperation by people at lower end of social hierarchies. Need cooperation to function in many hierarchies. Activation of interdependent power is called disruption.
