We are also able to make inferences on two population means. This comes in handy when we are comparing quantitative data for two data sets. Since there are both independent sampling and dependent sampling, the procedure for the hypothesis testing of the means will vary. Independent sampling: when an indi(cid:448)idual sele(cid:272)ted for o(cid:374)e sa(cid:373)ple does(cid:374)"t di(cid:272)tate which individual is to be selected for the second sample. Dependent sampling (matched pairs): when an individual is selected to be in one sample is used to determine the individual in the second sample. We will first look at two means with an independent sample! Sampling distribution for difference of two independent sample means. Imagine we were interested in finding out if a certain drug causes faster relief to men than it does to women. We"d have to take a certain sample of men suffering from this illness and take the average of their recovery times using this drug, i. e. (cid:2869).
