Fought in pelapeneshan war that took place in athens vs. sparta (27 year war) Lived in athens for 70 years with little travel. Nietzsche will make reference to his ugliness, odd because no greeks were ugly so this shows socrates was a criminal not a greek. He lived in poverty, could drink anyone under the table. Would stand in the middle of areas for hours on end, then randomly walk away. Wife called xanthippe, didn"t amount to anything, has gone down in history as being a shru. No great philosopher ever got married, socrates got married to prove the point. Didn"t care about science or nature originated or how it worked, didn"t care for physics as the pre socratics before him. Socrates wanted to understand internal motivations of humans and values. *important to socrates were the questions of ethics* Socrates wanted to know what should be of value in our lives.
