There is a link between political repression and pornography. To margaret, porn no longer meant regular old copulation. The scandinavian men exclaimed well, that is just the united states. Scandinavia drew the lines between erotica (which does not incite men to be aggressive towards women) and violence. When atwood was on a radio show, all the people who called in were against it too, but not for the same reason as they had never seen the hardcore stuff she saw. They were against depictions of the female body because god did not approve and sex was something that should be kept in the dark. The definition of pornography is so broad that it can mean anything, from certains ads for skin lotion to playboy magazine. People against porn may accuse the ones for porn of exploiting women through degrading images, corrupting children and adding to the general climate of threat women and children live in.
