Document Summary

Heart is the only muscle that generates its own contraction. They generate and distribute the electrical impulses. These electrical impulses stimulate the heart muscle to contract. Specialized region in right atrial wall near opening of superior vena cava. Pacemaker of heart: atrioventricular node (av node) Small bundle of specialized cardiac cells located at based of right atrium through septum. Non contractile cells capable of autorythmicity: bundle of his (av bundle) Cells originate at av node and enters interventricular septum: bundle branches. The bundle of his divides to form right and left bundle branches with travel down septum, curve around tip of ventricular chambers, travel back toward atria along outer walls: purkinje bres. Small, terminal bres that tend from bundle branches and spread throughout ventricular myocardium. Starting at the sa node, the action potential travels: from the right atrium to the left atrium through gap junctions (interatrial pathway).
