Structured observation systemetic, follows rules set out in coding system. Two levels of coding ** possible exam: manifest coding. Latent coding *: examining underlying, implicit meaning in content, subjective in nature, coding system requires general rules for interpretation, may read entire paragraph, watch whole news story, ect, classify as positive, negative, neutral. Manifest coding: reliability high: (cid:449)ord/ a(cid:272)tio(cid:374) is prese(cid:374)t or is(cid:374)"t, validity may not be valid, same word or action can have different meaning.
