Piaget: impoverished; becomes structured as a result of experience. Gestalt psychologists (kohler; gibsons): perceptual organization must occur. Stimuli spontaneously organize themselves it no meaningful patterns. We perceive a white triangle on top of 3 circles even though there is no edges on the triangle. This is bc our brain is subconsciously working to perceive the world. Knowing that the circles are the same size doesn"t help us our brain does size constancy and makes us think that one circle is bigger than the other. Brain imposes organization bc of the things around one circle versus the other. Techniques for testing infants: preference paradigm (takes advantage of the fact that we all have preferences of what to look at)
