Link between socialisation and functionalism (what is functionalism?) Is a theoretical perspective, many of us think using a functionalism sense. The lifelong process through which we learn the values, roles, and expected patterns of behaviour appropriate to particular social groups in a society. Learning the values of your society expected patterns. Life long process, as we age we encounter new responsibilities and new roles. How individuals learn to live together in an ordered way to produce a coherent society. Appropriate varies across time, place, social group, society. Smoking in our society, sexism, drinking/binge drinking, eye to eye contact we accept it as polite interaction vs. other cultures consider it rude socialisation. Definition is the process that integrates new members into a society goals process- way process. Examples of different social values or rules for behaviour (norms) that people are socialised into in different cultures.
