1. androcentric: intersectionality, multiple forms of opression, binary. What is women"s and gender studies: emerged in late, 1960"s and early 1970"s. U of t offered the first class in 1970. Recognized there is a complete lack of attention to women"s lives and how they are affected by many aspects. Mainstream curriculum and university settings were not speaking to women"s experiences. In the 60"s people began to say that this is not working, and the status quo was up for challenge. 1 | p a g e: early focus was on women -focus was including women into academic study. Too narrow: shift towards intersectionality (think about access of power, we are not oppressed by just our gender alone). We must think about race, class, sexual orientation, gender, ability: power and privilege are not equally accessed by all-larger social and political forces our lives. Transdisciplinary: wgst moves within and between disciplines.
