FILM 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Multiple Exposure, Establishing Shot, Optical Printer
Document Summary
Sound: diagetic, non diagetic, synchronous, non-simultaneous, sound perspective. Diagetic: any sound from within film"s wall (dialogues, sound effects from explosions, music from a radio or machine that the characters are also hearing) Non-diagetic: sound or narration that originates from outside the film"s wall, sound we hear that the character does not. Non-simultaneous: diagetic sounds that come from a source before or after the image it accompanies. Sound perspective: sense of the sound"s position in space. Realist theory: filmmakers start using films to explore and reproduce reality. Looks for points of correspondence between the film"s images and the social, psychological and physical placed in front of the camera, how the images reflect that. There is a threshold beyond which it ceases to be realism. Andre bazin was a film critic and essayist, writings were highly influential for a whole generation of writers and filmmakers.
