Health promotion- the process of enabling people to have control over and to improve their health, focuses on individual, social and environmental interventions. Not focusing on treatment and care targeting prevention and health decisions. 3 elements of health promotion: good governance for health- requires policy makers across all levels of government to make health a priority. Primary prevention- actions designed to stop health problems before they start. (proper diet, exercise, vaccines, not smoking, safe sex) Secondary prevention- intervention early in the development of a health problem to reduce symptoms or to halt its progression. (changing diet once you realize you have type-2 diabetes) Tertiary prevention- treatment or rehab efforts aimed at limiting the effects of a disease (cure focused, after cancer treatment, stroke rehab)
