NEUR 2001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Move, Statistical Significance, Morris Water Navigation Task
Document Summary
Note: look at slides from beginning class b/c u missed it. Non-linear cannot calculate correlation but there might be one. Note: the closer your r is to 1, the stronger the correlation (doesn"t matter if it is negative or positive) Is there a significant relationship between the athlete placing and training hours. You see a curve with the raw scores. What you do to make it linear: you rank the points from x-axis from lowest to highest, you rank the points from lowest to highest, but you don"t move them. Note: for a non-linear pattern or form, you cannot calculate with pearson or spearman correlation. The bidirectional curve will have a complex correlation, that why you can"t use either of those tests. The higher the shared variance is, the stronger the correlation: percentage change in one variable can be accounted by changing the other variable. Tells you the extent to which your variables are predictable.
