We all have diferent mental states, but since they all are in a sense a similar behaviour, we can talk about mental states. Anyone who doesn"t know how the brain itself works can talk just as well as we do! An uneducated peasant knows what he is saying. The fact that there is an idenity between brain and mental states is not afected by the fact that someone does not know about the idenity. Eg: at the ime of aristotle, people didn"t know of the morning start was the evening star that didn"t mean that it wasn"t! Reality is not diferent just because its knowledge is not yet known.
