A type of learning in which a stimulus acquires the capacity to evoke a response that was originally evoked by another stimulus. Something acts as a reminder of something else. When you think of bacon, you think of the scent, texture, flavour. Originally wanted to be a priest, but was very interested in gastric secretions (digestions) Part of his work involved presenting dogs in a lab with meat powder so he could measure the salivation and gastric secretion. One of his students noticed that when he entered the lab, the dogs would watch him and salivate, even though there was no food around.
