Learning: any relatively durable change in behaviour or knowledge that is due to experience. Conditioning: involves learning connections between events that occur in an organism"s environment. Was studying the role of saliva in the digestive processes of dogs when he stumbled onto what he called psychic re exes : subjects (dogs) were restrained in harnesses in an experimental chamber. Their saliva was collected by means of surgically implanted tube in the salivary gland. November 7&14: as his research progressed, he noticed that dogs accustomed to the procedure would start salivating before the meat powder was presented. Ex. they would salivate in response to a clicking sound made by the device that was used to present the meat powder. Pavlov paired the presentation of the meat powder with various stimuli that would stand out in the lab situation: ex. in some experiments, he used a simple auditory stimulus - the presentation of a tone.
