Seeks pleasure and avoidance of pain. instant gratification. Superego: ruled by social norms and moral principles. In some people, like in the id, it can be over active and they feel too much guilt. Preconscious: material that is not being used but can quickly and easily. Unconscious: things in the unconscious cannot be brought voluntarily into consciousness. Intrapsychic conflicts: conflicts between id, ego and super ego. Defence mechanism: largely unconscious psychological manoeuvers that are used to deal with anxiety. Forms of denial to protect ourselves when we receiving stress and anxiety. Displacement: taking out our feelings on other people or objects who have nothing to do with the orginal feeling. Regression: ex: an older boy begins wetting the bed again at night to receive more attention instead of younger sibling. People are against freud"s notion that we are not masters of our own mind. Looked mainly at the impact of environment on behaviour.
