Females are more dyadic; males more group oriented. This affects the importance of specific friendship characteristics. Males focus on character traits, cooperation, social behaviours. Females focus on trust, intimacy, and self-disclosure; reach more mature stages before males. Some researchers suggest that female friendships are more important because of the reliance on self-disclosure. Emotional safety net they make unknown or uncomfortable situations/places less scary or intimidating. Conflicts allow for practicing role taking skills.
